Like many people, my life has passed through many stages influenced largely by my career. I started at University intent on becoming a social worker but before graduating I took a right turn and joined the brand new world of computing. For 17 years I occupied senior technical management roles in the IT Departments of firstly the ANZ Bank and then Cadbury Schweppes before starting my own company Innovative Systems. In 2000, having taken part as computing progressed from punched cards to the cloud, I realized I needed an outside hobby and I attended a meeting organized by MCC to set up a home-based business network.
Having discovered community groups and their various activities in our area I quickly became involved in a wide range of community groups ranging from Chambers of Commerce to Seniors organizations. As I gradually progressed into retirement this involvement in the community grew to be my main focus in life, supplemented by travel and photography.
Now that I am a widower who has downsized to an apartment in Ringwood I am slowing down and now am actively involved in only three groups. I am the Chairperson of Communities of Wellbeing Inc., Chairperson of the Committee of Governance of Yarrunga Community Centre, and Treasurer of Community Music and Performances Inc.
Like many of my generation, I still, however, feel that I have things to say, and have the urge to push back against society’s tendency to consider people of my age irrelevant. So, I have started a blog. If nothing else maybe it will be a chance to show off some of my photographs.
